Oneonta is a city in southern Otsego County, in the Appalachian region New York State. Nicknamed The City of the Hills, it has an area of a little over four square miles, and a population of just under 14,000. Originally a town formed from the hamlet of Midfordville in the 19th century, Oneonta incorporated as a city in 1908.
