Edgewater, Cooperstown's most important historic home. Built by Issac Cooper, brother of James Fenimore Cooper, between 1810 & 1812. Remodeled and Victoranized in the late nineteenth century the Edgewater of today is the work of Society architect Frank Whiting who was commissioned to return the house to its Federal style in the 1920's. This impressive home has played host to some of Americas most important citizens. Writers, artists, sports figures, statesmen and Presidents have been part of this homes history from the early nineteenth century until today.

Situated on two acres in the center of Cooperstown's charming village the 7000 square foot main house and its guest cottage are set among specimen trees and lawns completely enclosed within a fence and hedgerow. There are also a large two bay garage building with additional storage, period ice house and green house. The drive is paved with curbing and lighting.

The two story brick main house has large public rooms on the first floor, a dynamic double curved staircase, eight bedrooms several with en suite baths, eight fireplaces and a full basement. There is a commercial kitchen and large pantry, service stairs and a third floor once used for maids quarters. Period details abound with Federal era mantle pieces, woodwork and plaster moldings. The dining room if finished with a hand painted landscape mural, custom curtains remain in the dining & drawing rooms as well as other rooms throughout the house. The three bedroom guest cottage, once a carriage house, has been completely updated within the past few years. All surfaces in the main house have been refinished with new paint and paper, both the main house and cottage are in excellent condition. This property is rarely available even once in a generation.
